Most of the time when you click on a link to a PDF file, the file opens up in the browser window. When this happens, it can slow down the browser significantly and sometimes even crashes the browser. If I know I’m clicking on a PDF file then I simply right click my mouse and save it to my desktop instead.

If you want to earn brownie points with your subscribers, website visitors or customers, then you should follow the steps below to prevent this from happening.

Before you upload a PDF file you should open up the file and then go to edit > preferences.

Go to the “internet” tab and uncheck the box next to “Display PDF in browser“. It is checked by default.

Once you uncheck the box, click on OK and the upload the file to your site or wherever you’ll be hosting it. Now when visitors click on your link to the PDF, they will have the option of saving it to their computer.

Doing small things like this will cut down on your support tickets and make your visitors happier.

If this tip helped you then please post a comment.
